Healthy coffee drink inspiration

Attention fellow health conscious coffee lovers! Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for a chocolate banana frappe that not only satisfies your cravings, but also provides you with the added benefits of real fruit and collagen protein. I made a vegan/dairy-free version because I am lactose intolerant, but you can substitute for real dairy ingredients if desired.

I really like to call this chocolate banana frappe my “Monkey go-go juice.” 🐒🍌 I can just imagine a monkey walking into a coffee shop ordering this getting ready for a long day of swinging on vines! It’s a fun, refreshing drink that gets me going in a healthy way. Try the best healthy coffee drink to cool down and fuel you up in the most delicious way possible. Makes approximately 20 ounces.

Let’s begin!

Ingredients to make chocolate banana frappe

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana

  • 1/2 cup unsweet vanilla almond milk (or plant milk of choice)

  • 1/2 cup coffee, chilled

  • 1 tbsp chocolate collagen powder (or your favorite protein powder)

  • 1/2 tbsp pure maple syrup

  • 1 cup ice (roughly 8 large ice cubes)

Optional garnish: Dairy-free whipped topping, dark chocolate shavings, banana slices.

How to make chocolate banana frappe

Instructions:

Add all ingredients to a smoothie maker or blender and blend until smooth.

I’ve used this recipe in both my Ninja smoothie maker and my Vitamix blender and it works great in both. Please read manufacture instructions for best order of loading ingredients.

Pour into serving glass and serve immediately. Garnish with dairy-free whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.

I love using dairy-free CoCoWhip by SoDelicious. It’s a great dairy-free alternative for whipped topping. Find it in the freezer isle near the desserts and frozen fruits at your local grocery store.

Chocolate banana frappe benefits

Delicious can be healthy! Check out some of the healthy benefits from this frappe that drinks like a milkshake:

  • Bananas add an energy boost and are great for heart health and aid in digestion. Since bananas are high in fiber, they improve bowel movements and gut health,

  • The plant-based protein collagen builder adds healthy protein along with added benefits of collagen to hydrate your skin, hair, nails and keep your bones strong.

  • Coffee helps with weight management and has been shown to help protect your liver and cardiovascular health.

  • Maple syrup has antioxidants and also contains lots of minerals including manganese which may help regulate blood sugar levels, support bones, and strengthen connective tissues. Maple syrup also has a low glycemic index, which makes it the ideal sweetener for people with diabetes.

Enjoy!
