2024 Total Eclipse Fun Facts

Before we begin, here is a few fun facts about this rare celestial occurance for 2024:

  • The states in America that will have eclipse totality and best for viewing include: Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine…and it will very slightly clip tiny areas of Michigan and Tennessee. To view the most current solar eclipse path map, click HERE to view the official NASA up to date map.

  • Total solar eclipses only occur when its a new moon phase. The new moon passes between the earth and the sun.

  • The stars and planets will briefly reappear and the local wildlife gets confused, such as birds returning to their nests and animals will get quiet.

  • The temperature will sllightly decrease due to the absence of sunlight.

How long will the 2024 total solar eclipse last? A little over 4 minutes with total darkness for those in the direct path of eclipse. UPDATE: I’ve added a couple of photos from this year’s 2024 total solar eclipse below.

This photo of the 2024 total solar eclipse was taken in Little Rock, Arkansas and sent to me by a family member. It was photographed with a high quality camera with a special lens and is spectacular!

For a less impressive photo from a different view in North Carolina, scroll down.

My husband and I met in a parking lot in Charlotte to enjoy this moment together, sharing the solar glasses we purchased in Arkansas the week before. Even though our view of the eclipse was never at full totality, it was still a magical moment that we will remember for years to come.

My less impressive photo of the April 2024 eclipse was taken with my iPhone 12 while I was holding my solar glasses over the lens. The coverage for Charlotte only reached 85%.

Okay, now that you are all informed and excited, let’s celebrate by making a drink to toast to the 2024 total solar eclipse and all its wonder and glory!
