easy recipe for slow cooker dressing in crockpot

Easy-to-make slow cooker dressing in the Crockpot for a large family or gathering, perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Slow cooker dressing inspiration

Do you ever commit to hosting your family’s holiday feast and find yourself juggling multiple dishes and struggling to find space in your oven and on your stove top when preparing for a big family gathering? I know I have! This is the best recipe for slow cooker dressing that cooks in your Crockpot on the counter while you prepare the rest of the meal on your stove top or oven. It’s also easily transported and plugged back in at your destination to stay warm until ready to serve if you are contributing a side dish for a Thanksgiving or Christmas get-together.

This easy-to-make slow cooker stuffing make in the Crockpot is fluffy, moist and full of savory flavors. You will not believe how delicious this traditional holiday side is right out of the crockpot!

Although this delicious stuffing is great by itself, you can top or pair it with your traditional sides such as cranberry sauce or turkey gravy.

Vegetarian stuffing recipe option

Not only does this mouth-watering recipe save precious kitchen real estate, but it also utilizes healthy bone broth and minimal ingredients to create a dairy-free version that will satisfy every guest at your table. And for the vegetarians in the crowd, fear not - the bone broth can easily be swapped out for a vegetarian broth to create a delicious alternative. (I’ve got a delicious alternative for vegetarian chicken broth available on Amazon linked on the recipe card at bottom of this post.) Get ready to revolutionize your holiday cooking with this irresistible slow cooker dressing. Yields approximately 10-12 hearty servings.

Let’s begin!

Crockpot Stuffing Ingredients

  • 1 cup plant butter (I use Country Crock olive oil based plant butter)

  • 2 tsp Dash original seasoning blend

  • 1 1/2 tsp dry rubbed sage

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

  • 1 large sweet onion, diced (I used a vedalia onion)

  • 2 cups sliced celery (about 6 large stalks)

  • 12 cups (two 12oz bags) herb seasoned stuffing blend

  • 3 cups bone broth (I use the reduced sodium option)

  • 2 large eggs, whisked

Note: For a vegetarian stuffing option, swap the bone broth for a vegetarian chicken broth.

Note: I am lactose intolerant, so I chose to use plant butter and make this a dairy-free recipe. If you want to substitute with real dairy butter, use equal amount substitution.

Equipment needed: 8 quart (or larger) slow cooker or Crockpot and a medium sauce pot.

How to make easy Crockpot stuffing

Instructions:

Grease or spray with non-stick spray, the inside of your slow cooker or Crockpot.

In a medium sauce pot, add plant butter and melt on over medium heat. Next, add salt, pepper, spices, onion and celery. Continue cooking over medium heat while stirring occasionally for about 5-7 minutes, or until vegetables start to soften a little.

Remove from heat and let cool at least 10 minutes.

Add stuffing blend bread cubes to greased crockpot, then add the celery and onion mixture and stir to blend. Next, pour in the bone broth and stir to moisten.

Add whisked eggs and stir to blend evenly. Put lid on slow cooker and set to high and cook for 25 minutes, then set on low and cook for 3 more hours.

When done cooking, remove lid and fluff dressing with large spoon and set on warm until ready to serve (replace lid while keeping warm.) Note: You may choose to open and stir dressing every 50-60 minutes to prevent over browning on the sides, but I personally like those browned edges mixed in, it gives this dressing an oven baked taste and feeling.

Does Crockpot stuffing tastes just as good as oven-baked?

YES! This crockpot stuffing is moist, fluffy and delicious. This dressing would make the best side dish for Thanksgiving, Christmas, holiday party or family meal. It will yield 10-12 hearty servings.

Enjoy!
