Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

healthy recipe with real oranges

Citrus season is here and I’m loving it! Fresh, juicy and bright tasting citrus fruits are what I naturally crave this time of year, so the inspiration hit to create a delicious and healthy smoothie. My Orange Creamsicle Smoothie is a creamy and dreamy delight! Fresh mandarin oranges, banana, and vanilla yogurt make this simple and satisfying smoothie a great breakfast, snack or pre-workout boost.

Just a note in case you don't like the taste of bananas: you really can't taste the banana. My husband doesn't like bananas and he tried this smoothie and loved it and could not taste banana at all. Makes approximately a 16oz serving.

Let’s begin!

Ingredients:

  • 2 mandarin oranges

  • 1 medium banana slices

  • 1/2 cup Silk unsweet vanilla almondmilk yogurt

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almondmilk

Optional: Pour into serving glass and garnish with a dollop of yogurt and orange zest, if desired., extra dollop of yogurt and orange zest for garnish. Note: use frozen orange sections and banana slices for a thick, creamy smoothie.

I think this smoothie is sweet enough on it’s own, but you may sweeten by adding 1/2 tsp honey (or use pure maple syrup for vegan) or add 1-2 large pitted dates before blending.

Instructions:

Add ingredients, in order, to a smoothie cup and blend using smoothie setting.

Alternatively, add all ingredients to a blender in reverse order and pulse a few times, then blend on high for at least one minute, or until smooth.

Pour into serving glass and garnish with a dollop of yogurt and orange zest, if desired.

Enjoy this fresh and bright tasting smoothie for breakfast or a delicious pre-workout boost.

Enjoy!

How to make orange creamsicle smoothie
  1. Add ingredients, in order, to a smoothie cup and blend using smoothie setting. (Alternatively, add all ingredients to a blender in reverse order and pulse a few times, then blend on high for at least one minute, or until smooth.)
  2. Pour into serving glass and garnish with a dollop of yogurt and orange zest, if desired.

Notes

Tip: Use frozen orange sections and banana slices for a thick, creamy smoothie.

Tip: If you want to sweeten a little more, add 1/2 tsp raw honey (or pure maple syrup for vegan) or add 1-2 large, pitted dates before blending.

Note: If substituting mandarins for naval oranges, only use 1 1/2 oranges since they are larger.

Note: I am lactose intolerant, that is why I choose to create a dairy-free version, but if you would like to use real dairy ingredients you can (equal substitution amounts.) Keep in mind that the nutritional value may change.
