Pooch Pops

Two-Ingredient Popsicles for Dogs

diy easy dog treat recipe for frozen dog popsicles using only two ingredients. Easy pupsicle recipe for summer.

Learn how to make your own dog treats from baby food and all-natural peanut butter for summertime frozen pooch pops.

We are getting into the dog days of summer, and I was inspired to create a frozen treat for our beloved pets out there to keep them satisfied and cool during the hot weather. These two-ingredient Pooch Pops are very easy to make and quite delicious for humans as well (minus the optional dog treat!) Made with baby food (or you can optionally bake sweet potatoes and puree) and all-natural organic peanut butter made with only peanuts and sea salt (not the kind with added sugar.) Makes 6 popsicles that are approximately 1 and 3/4-inch diameter.

How to make popsicles for dogs

Let’s begin!

Ingredients:

  • (2) 4oz jars Beech Nut organic sweet potato baby food (or 1 cup baked sweet potatoes, pureed)

  • 1/4 cup Organic natural creamy peanut butter (with no added sugars-only peanuts and sea salt as the ingredients)

  • Optional: Milk Bone Dipped Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Equipment needed: Mini muffin mold (silicone works great.) NOTE: If you are not using silicone, it is recommended to use dog treats for an easier release from tray.

Instructions:

Mix together sweet potato puree/baby food and peanut butter with hand mixer, blender or smoothie cup for one minute on high or until thoroughly incorporated.

Fill muffin cups up till about 1/4-inch from top (they will expand some during freezing process and also if you want to add optional dog treat in center the extra space will allow for that.)

TIP: If you are using a silicone mold, you may want to place it on a baking sheet or tray for support and sturdiness while transporting to freezer.

Mixture should be thick enough to go ahead and add the dog treat in center at this time, if you desire.

NOTE: If the treat you are using is heavy and starts to tilt, you can freeze for about 15-20 minutes then insert a dog treat.

Freeze for 3-4 hours or until set, then unmold when ready to serve.

How long do dog popsicles last in freezer? These pooch pops should be safe for consumption for up to eight weeks if covered or in an air-tight container in the freezer.

What are the nutritional benefits of sweet potatoes for dogs?

Not only are sweet potatoes beneficial to humans, but they have many benefits to our four-legged friends also. Sweet potatoes contain lots of fiber to aid in a healthy digestion. Sweet potatoes are also full of antioxidants that can help fight stress, illness and free radicals that cause cell damage. They also contain vitamins A, C, and B6 to aid in things like reproduction, keeping their immune system healthy as well as vision and glucose support for healthy blood sugar stabilization.

NOTE: As with all things, moderation is the key. These Pooch Pops are meant to be a “treat” and not used as a regular meal or diet. If your dog has never been introduced to sweet potatoes or peanut butter, I would highly recommend introducing a tiny amount and watch for an allergic reaction or consult your dog’s veterinarian first before adding something new to its diet.
