Easy no-bake breakfast idea

Lots of us skip breakfast every day due to lack of time as the main reason. (My husband can tell you that I’m not in that group…because I would be one “hangry” woman, haha...I LOVE my breakfast!) What if there was a quick and easy breakfast solution that not only saves time but also nourishes your body with delicious, gut-healthy ingredients? Say hello to delicious and fulfilling chocolate cherry overnight oats.

This dairy-free breakfast option requires no baking, minimal prep, and is packed with nutrients to jumpstart your day and give you a healthy gut. Transform your morning routine from lacking to fulfilling.

Ingredients for chocolate cherry overnight oats

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats

  • 1 tsp milled flax seeds

  • 1/4 cup dairy-free vanilla flavored yogurt alternative (I like using unsweetened Silk brand)

  • 1 tbsp Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, chocolate flavor (Feel free to use your favorite protein powder as a substitute)

  • 1 tsp pure maple syrup

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen dark sweet cherries

Optional garnish: Dollop of dairy-free yogurt alternative, dark chocolate (grated or chips) and fresh cherry slices.

Equipment needed: Jar with lid or container with tight fitting lid.

How to make overnight oats

Instructions:

Add all ingredients to a mason jar or container with tight fitting lid and you can either place lid on and shake together ingredients or stir together and then put lid on. Place in fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight.

When ready to eat, remove from fridge and dig in or you can transfer to a serving glass or bowl and garnish with a dollop of dairy-free yogurt, chopped or grated dark chocolate and fresh cherry slices.

Why are overnight oats good for your gut?

  • Oats are prebiotic. Starches in oats promote friendly bacteria that live in your gut, helping keep your microbiome in balance. Oats also contain two types of fiber (soluble and insoluble) that can help keep you regular and relieve bloating.

  • Cherries are full of fiber and antioxidants and also promote weight loss, immunity, brain health and more.

Note: I am lactose intolerant, that is why I choose to create a dairy-free version, but if you would like to use real dairy ingredients you can (equal substitution amounts.) Keep in mind that the nutritional value may change.
