Want a spooky appetizer for your Halloween party?

Try these savory cheese straw witch fingers. Creepy, yet delicious with a slight bit of heat from cayenne pepper to balance out all the sweet dessert and candy you’ll be indulging in. These can be made a day or two before and stored in an airtight container until ready to serve. Scroll down to see a clever idea to use them on mini charcuterie boards paired with grapes, olives, orange ricotta cheese filled dates (made to look like cockroaches) and a pretzel witch broom to top in off. They’re deliciously spooky!!👻 Makes 12 large fingers or 24 small fingers.

Let’s begin!

Ingredients for witch finger cheese straws

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup +2 tbsp flour

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 12-24 slivered almond slices

How to make witch finger cheese straws

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350℉ / 176 ℃.

In a large bowl, cream butter with beater until light and fluffy, then add shredded cheese and beat until well blended.

In a separate bowl, mix together flour, salt and cayenne pepper.

Add flour mixture to cheese mixture and stir with a spoon until a dough forms.

You may need to use your (very clean) hands to complete the mix thoroughly.

For large witch fingers, scoop out a scant tablespoon of mixture and roll out into a finger shape. for small cheese straws, use a teaspoon sized amount. Gently place on an ungreased baking sheet.

Place a slivered almond slice on tip of each finger and for an extra effect, use a toothpick to create wrinkle lines.

Bake for 15 minutes, for large fingers. Bake 12-14 minutes for small fingers.

Let cool and serve, or store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
