Witch Finger Cheese Straws

Want a spooky appetizer for your Halloween party? Try these savory Cheese Straw Witch Fingers. Creepy, yet delicious with a slight bit of heat from cayenne pepper to balance out all the sweet dessert and candy you’ll be indulging in. These can be made a day or two before and stored in an airtight container until ready to serve. Makes 12 large or 24 small.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup +2 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 24 slivered almond slices

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350℉ / 176 ℃.
  • In a large bowl, cream butter with beater until light and fluffy, then add shredded cheese and beat until well blended.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together flour, salt and cayenne pepper.
  • Add flour mixture to cheese mixture and stir with a spoon until a dough forms. (You may need to use your (very clean) hands to complete the mix thoroughly.)
  • For large witch fingers, scoop out a scant tablespoon of mixture and roll out into a finger shape. for small cheese straws, use a teaspoon sized amount.
  • Gently place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Place a slivered almond slice on tip of each finger and for an extra effect, use a toothpick to create wrinkle lines.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, for large fingers. Bake 12-14 minutes for small fingers.
  • Let cool and serve, or store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
