What is a healthy substitute for ice cream?
Sugar craving? Trade those unhealthy processed sugars and fats for whole foods with nutritional value and curb your sugar craving with this healthier smoothie. This thick and creamy Mermaid Bubblegum Smoothie is full of tropical fruits and 12.25 grams of plant protein to fuel your morning or enjoy as a meal replacement. You won’t believe how much the taste resembles tropical bubblegum, not to mention how lovely the bright pink color is! Garnish with some milled flax seeds (sand), star fish-shaped bananas and coconut flakes for some healthy additions…or go ahead and splurge a little with the optional allergy friendly white chocolate mermaid tails and seashells for fun. Makes 16 ounces and is vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free.
Let’s begin!
How to make a Mermaid Smoothie Bowl
Ingredients:
-
1 medium banana, frozen
-
1/2 mango, cubed (or 1/2 cup)
-
1/2 cup pink pitaya dragon fruit, frozen
-
2 tbsp Aloha vanilla plant protein
-
1/2 cup pineapple juice
-
1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
-
1/4 tsp Origine Organic Vanilla Extract
-
3-4 ice cubes
Note: You can substitute the pineapple juice for 1/2 cup fresh pineapple if desired.
Instructions:
Place all ingredients into smoothie cup or blender in order listed, pulse a few times then blend on high for one minute, or until smooth.
Spoon smoothie mixture into a coconut bowl and garnish as desired.
I added milled flax seeds to resemble sand and cutout star fish shaped bananas to put on top. Coconut flakes are also a great topping to compliment the tropical flavors.
Don’t want to spoon out of a bowl? Just transfer to a glass and use a paper straw to sip it like a milkshake.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Optional garnishes: I added milled flax seeds to resemble sand and cutout star fish shaped bananas to put on top. Coconut flakes are also a great topping to compliment the tropical flavors. For an extra special touch, use a mermaid tail silicone mold, found HERE and melt dairy-free white chocolate or candy melts spoon in mold and let set. For a magical glittery sheen brush on some edible glitter, found HERE.
Note: You can substitute the pineapple juice for 1/2 cup fresh pineapple if desired. (I just didn’t have room in my smoothie cup)
