Fairy Party Ideas

When I was a little girl, me and my cousins loved to play outside in the woods and fields throughout our grandmother’s land. We would find a path of trees and assign the big elaborate roots as a certain part of our “make believe” house, finding cedar branches to sweep them up and breaking off long thorns from a nearby vine to use as pretend pencils and such. Sometimes we would walk out in the pasture to look under the giant white mushrooms for Smurfs. With all our imagination and nature’s beauty, that was probably the closest I’ve felt to a fairy. (Such fond memories. 😊)

Even today, I love the idea of a fairy party where nature and magic meet, creating fairy gardens, sparkly drinks, imaginative fairy cakes, enchanted mushroom cupcakes and more! Enjoy some of my fairy party ideas below:

How to make a fairy party costume:

First thing every fairy needs is a whimsical fairy dress and accessories. Even if you are just hosting the fairy party, young attendees will enjoy seeing a big fairy all dressed up! How to make a fairy costume homemade without spending a lot of money:To find a fairy dress, first hunt for deals in your local thrift or consignment shop. I purchased this dress in the photo at a thrift store for $5 and used some leftover easter garland for the headband and wrapped it around waste and neck for a “one-with-nature” look. I used faux pink flowers from my craft arsenal to also place in the headband for an extra special touch, because fairies love flowers.
How to make a fairy wand out of a twig or branch:Also using things from my craft supplies, I wrapped a twig from my backyard in silver foil paper, added some pink mesh ribbon for a soft look and old silver ribbon curls for extra sparkle. Next, I cut out cardboard in the shape of a star and glued on gold foil paper. There you go…an easy way to make a homemade fairy wand!

Find step-by-step instructions for making this DIY summer lip balm HERE.Add some simple paper butterflies to the lid with glue dots. See instructions below on how to make easy paper butterfly decoration.

How to make paper butterflies:

Making paper butterfly decorations is really simple. Depending on how large you want them to be, start with a perfect square. Since I needed small ones for a lip balm container, I used 2 1/4 inch squares. You will also need ribbon. I used curling ribbon, so I could curl to look like antennae.
For top half of wings, you will use a full square. Fold in half, then snip at an angle on each side. Open, then fold in 1/4-inch sections like an accordion. For bottom half, cut a square in two pieces (you can fold first, open, then cut on the crease to make sure it’s an even half.) Fold in 1/4-inch folds, down lengthways like an accordion.
Next, fold each half, giving it a slight bend and place together. Use curling ribbon to tie together, moving knot to top and snip and curl ribbon to look like antennae. That’s it, you’re done! You can make various colors and size also to decorate tables or make giant ones to hang on walls, doors or trees. (For very large ones, you can put together with pipe cleaner and curl the wire like antennae.)
